Floating Leaf Song

this is a 12x12" mixed media piece i did last winter in January. I was hanging out in my little camper late at night bc i adopted it as my smaller private studio in the driveway. I work night shift and when everyone's home and in bed, i go out there where i can have good light and sit at the table and create smaller pieces. It's quiet, cozy and I can concentrate. I like the space. Anyway, I had just watched Guillermo del Toro's adaptation of "Frankenstein" on Netflix and I was COMPLETELY ENAMORED with the whole movie. Every aspect of it was, in my opinion, beautifully created, executed, and mastered with every detail. i especially loved the costumery, set artistry/creativity and music. i gushed about it for days! i downloaded the soundtrack immediately. so what this piece of art is about is the song "floating leaf song" that i was listening to as i began the initial drawing. i closed my eyes and listened and let my marker proceed in flowing out line that went with the ethereal sounds of the music. i have created several pieces in this fashion and i enjoy it immensely! some turn out, others do not. hahaha! the other thing about this piece is the color. i really like using contrasting and complimentary colors in a way that creates form, composition and sometimes discomfort. i am learning that i like making myself uncomfortable with color and process. it's actually very freeing and fun for me. what's not fun is when i am liking something as i'm going along and then i mess it up with a bad decision. but i have found that sometimes mistakes can make me move in a different direction and actually turn out a better piece of work. i reckon most artists experience this if they really enjoy what they do. With this one, I used acrylic paint markers, alcohol marker and acrylic paint. Go to my store to buy either the original or a print.

12x12" original: $250

prints: $75
