About me...

My name is Andi Sword. I am from eastern Kentucky. I create as a painter and mixed media artist. Although I don't subscribe to a particular genre or style, I consider my art to be mostly figurative and abstract expressionism. I work in oils, acrylics and use any drawing materials I can get my hands on. I love layers of color and texture and I use many techniques to achieve those qualities in my work. My art continues to evolve and expand and I am inspired to create now more than ever. Writing is another artistic outlet for me and I love to write poetry and prose. I worked professionally as an illustrator/graphic designer early on in my 20's, but quickly realized that advertising wasn't at all fulfilling. At that time in my life, I knew I couldn't earn enough money as a fine artist, especially in the culture of the area where I lived, so I went back to school. I became a nurse and have been since 1999. I am a critical care RN in the PACU and have worn many hats in my nursing career over the years. I have always considered myself an artist first and even though I have had to juggle both careers while still raising my family, my art has been a love, a passion and a top priority. With encouragement from my husband, I became what I call a "serious" artist around 2008 when I decided to devote more time and intention towards painting. Since then, I have created many works that have homes in places all over the U.S. Also, I still get to create album covers, merchandise and posters for musicians on a regular basis and i enjoy it very much. As far as fine art commissions, I do not do commissions for two simple reasons: 1. I don't like to do commissions and 2. They never turn out as intended because that's not how I work. I may start out with a general idea, but it hardly ever stays pointed in that direction. In closing, I want to add that I am fortunate to have been encouraged to pursue my artistic talent as a young girl. I am thankful for my parents who payed for the lessons, the materials, the gas to get me there, and ultimately, my college education. I earned a bachelor of fine arts degree because of them. I am incredibly grateful for them and for the teachers who took an interest in helping me learn the fundamentals and the pleasures of creating art. Along with my parents, my husband and my son are my biggest fans and they have given me courage and inspiration over and over. Most importantly, I know that my gift is just that; a gift from God. I am honored that I was given such a precious gift and I don't take the responsibility of sharing it lightly. My intention is to share with you honestly and in the hope that i can connect with you through artistic expression. I would love the opportunity to show my work in a physical space because, in my opinion, to be in front of the art and to see it up close is an personal experience all to itself. I am definitely a believer in the energy of art and it's physical presence. Feel free to contact me about shows and exhibits. Thank each one of you who takes the time to look at, read and absorb my art!
