"tera", greek for monster, came out of this one. i began with alcohol markers and drew in the beginning of what came to be the form of a rose and then shifted towards a more medical/biological idea. striations of muscle, cells, nerves and structures that reminded me of what i might see under a microscope. i used many different colors, many that i don't particularly like. i used acrylic markers along with soft pastels and oil pastels to get the bold color, line and contrast that i like. i also smeared in larger, more bold and textured area of black with acrylic paint. then, i finally finished with charcoal pencils for finer detail. creating this piece of art was intuitive and messy and challenging. it made me somewhat uncomfortable in the process of feeling my way through many layers. i didn't think it would turn out to be anything because it was an exercise and experiment with new materials, but i have grown to appreciate it and find it worthy to share.
